What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from September 2024. ERO judged student outcomes to be both equitable and of a very high standard. Most Year 7 to 10 students achieve at or above expected curriculum levels across the learning areas, and most Year 10 students meet the NCEA literacy and numeracy requirements.
In the senior school, most students gain merit or excellence endorsements, several have earned New Zealand Scholarship awards, and Māori students achieve NCEA at rates similar to their peers. Attendance is above the Ministry of Education’s national target.
ERO also noted a revised middle school programme shaped by wide consultation, programmes that support students who need extra help and stretch those with particular abilities, and pastoral care in which teachers know students well throughout their time at the school.
The agreed next steps are to build on the school’s recent review of its pastoral, curriculum and cultural work to understand its effect on every student’s wellbeing, progress and achievement, and to keep strengthening bicultural and multicultural responsiveness, including a stronger presence of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori and closer links with the community.

Enrolling
As a state-integrated school, it gives preference of enrolment to students whose families have a particular family, religious or philosophical sympathy with its special character or a particular connection to the school, and attendance dues apply.
Under its enrolment scheme, students accepted as boarders come first, then preference students living within the Dunedin city boundary, with siblings, children of former students and children of staff and clergy ahead of others, then preference students from outside the city, and then non-preference students if places remain.
Families apply online, and the school holds open days for boarding and day students before applications close. It publishes its open day and closing dates, enrolment scheme and fee schedules on its admissions page each year, and international students apply through a separate online form.
