Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from March 2026. ERO found steady progress since its previous review, with literacy at the centre of the school’s improvement work and more students meeting expected literacy levels.
A large majority of students reach the expected learning levels, including in literacy and mathematics in Years 7 to 10, a large majority gain NCEA Level 1 and Level 3 and most gain Level 2, though less than half achieve University Entrance.
ERO found achievement for Māori students is equitable, and students described a strong sense of belonging, respectful relationships with teachers and well-planned transitions. Attendance is a concern: less than half of students attend regularly, and this was not yet improving.
ERO’s priorities are for the school to use engagement and learning data to shape teaching and speed up progress for students at risk, to build teachers’ cultural capability and confidence, including in te ao Māori, and to lift regular attendance to meet Government targets.
Leaders are to put the school’s attendance plan into action and develop a shared picture of responsive teaching so practice is consistent across the school.
