Amana Christian School is a private, co-educational composite school for Years 1 to 13 at 14 Gordon Road, Mosgiel. It opened in 2001 and had 61 students on its roll at 1 September 2026.
It has no home zone, so any student can apply. The school’s site describes it as an interdenominational Christian school that teaches through Bible-based curricula, including the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) programme, in which students work through self-paced workbooks, and says families do not need to be Christian to enrol.
Alongside its Mosgiel classroom it runs a distance learning programme for students around New Zealand, and it is a signatory to the international student code of practice for international students.

What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a private school review from June 2024. This kind of review checks whether a private school meets the legal criteria for registration rather than evaluating learning in depth.
ERO found the school was not meeting any of the criteria at the time: suitable premises, regular tuition, staffing, equipment, curriculum, tuition standards, managers assessed as fit and proper persons, and a physically and emotionally safe place.
Most of its concerns centred on the larger group of students learning at a distance and meeting at regional activity hubs, which had not been approved as school premises and where ERO could not be sure that tuition, supervision, equipment and safety were adequate.
ERO also found that a staff member had worked without a current police vet, and that the child protection, bullying, appointments and complaints policies needed immediate attention. On the Mosgiel site itself, ERO found learners settled and focused and equipment suitable.
After the onsite visit, the school began updating those policies, asked the Ministry of Education to assess its managers as fit and proper persons, took steps on a safety concern around the play area and car park, and had the staff member vetted.
ERO still concluded that the school fell short of the registration criteria for a private school, and recommended that its managers act on premises, tuition, staffing, equipment, tuition standards and student safety. The Ministry of Education follows up findings like these with the school.

Enrolling
As a private school with no home zone, any family can apply, and school fees apply. The school suggests getting in touch first, then completing its enrolment form for onsite or distance learning, which is on its enrolment page along with what distance learners need at home, such as a quiet workspace, a computer and a reliable internet connection.
International students contact the school first, as their enrolment works differently. The school publishes its fees for onsite, distance and international students on its fees page.
